Abstract
Vaccination is proved to be the most important preventive measure even nowadays when majority of communicable diseases are under control. Vaccination protects not only individual vaccinated from occuring potentially serious diseases but also
individuals
unvaccinated in the community by reducing chances of infectious agent spread from person to person if the herd immunity is high, high enough proportion of the population immunized.
In this paper general principles of vaccination in terms of efficacy, safety, usefulness and cost-benefit of vaccination are reviewed. Current vaccination schedule for children and adults in Korea. Known efficacy and side reactions by kind of
vaccine,
and precautions in vaccination practice are discussed.
